Mayfield wins in District 60

Incumbent Peggy Mayfield will again represent Indiana House District 60 in November’s general election.

Mayfield, of Martinsville, only won 48.5% of the votes in Johnson County in Tuesday’s Republican primary, compared to 52.5% of the votes for first time candidate Brittany Carroll, of White River Township. But Mayfield carried much of the rest of the district, which encompasses the majority of Morgan County along with portions of northeastern Monroe and northwestern Johnson counties.

“This district is about 50% new, so there was no given going into it. I had to put myself out there for a lot of people I didn’t know, and who didn’t know me,” Mayfield said. “It was almost like campaigning for the first time. For the voters to put their trust in me like that, I take very seriously.”

Mayfield, a small business owner who has served as a state representative since 2012, focused her campaign on fiscal responsibility, including ensuring the state lives within its means and makes targeted investments.

She also pledged to address physical and mental health issues, including helping create more opportunities for those with physical and cognitive disabilities. Crime, including cracking down on internet trafficking, was another focus.

Mayfield is, so far, unopposed in the general election.
