College notebook: Bass helps Taylor continue to excel

The Taylor baseball squad completed its regular season with four consecutive wins over visiting Grace College. Junior first baseman T.J. Bass finished the series 7 of 13 at the plate with four doubles, a home run and 11 runs driven in.

A Greenwood graduate, Bass is batting .382 for the NAIA No. 24 Trojans this season with 19 homers and 84 RBIs.

Greenwood

University of Indianapolis thrower Emily Bonser notched wins in both the shot put and hammer throw at the Sycamore Open at Indiana State. For the Greyhounds men’s team, Brandon Albin established a new personal mark of 4:35.57 in the 1,500-meter run.

UIndy catcher Lexy Rees delivered two home runs in the softball team’s 9-0 win at Lindenwood. Dominique Proctor singled and scored a run. Rees later produced a three-run homer as the ’Hounds won at Maryville, 4-1.

Franklin College senior Mallory Watson took sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 13 minutes, 34.54 seconds at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference meet at Hanover College. Watson also was part of the sixth-place 4×400 relay, which posted a time of 4:22.91.

Lipscomb’s women’s 4×400 relay, which included Hanna Anderson, ran the second-fastest time in school history (3:50.30) to finish fifth at Vanderbilt’s Music City Challenge.

Center Grove

Senior Ethan Shepherd helped Indiana men’s golf finish ninth in the team standings at the Big Ten Championships in French Lick, carding a three-round total of 230 to tie for 45th individually.

Southern Indiana first baseman Lexi Fair produced a solo home run at Missouri-St. Louis, going 5 of 10 overall with four runs scored during a four-game road trip.

Franklin College baseball pitcher Chris Foote picked up the win in the Grizzlies’ 9-6 triumph at Transylvania, allowing a hit and striking out two in one inning of middle relief. Teammate Jackson Young pitched the previous frame, permitting two hits and fanning one.

Pitcher Grant Herron picked up the win with two hits allowed and 11 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work as the Morehead State baseball team downed UT-Martin, 14-0.

Indiana Wesleyan scored an 8-3 win over Marian, and freshman pitcher Drue Young notched the win by working seven innings, allowing seven hits and striking out seven.

Alabama sophomore Bryce Eblin had three singles for the Crimson Tide baseball team in a 6-5 loss at South Carolina.

Whiteland

Liberty freshman Will Jefferson placed sixth in the 1,500-meter run at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier, finishing in a time of 3:45.28.

Freshman Bella Jackson set a new Lipscomb women’s high jump record, clearing 5 feet, 9¼ inches to place second at the Music City Challenge.

Senior Michaela Adams placed fourth in the discus for the UIndy women’s track and field squad at the Sycamore Open.

Sophomore Zach Ricketts tied for the 14th spot overall with a total of 240 as Franklin College men’s golf finished second at the annual HCAC tournament in Harrison, Ohio.

Outfielder Addison Csikos singled and scored the lone run for Franklin College softball in a 2-1 loss to visiting Defiance.

Luke Helton pitched the first seven innings for Morehead State baseball in a 10-9 victory against UT-Martin, giving up 11 hits and striking out five.

Anderson senior Brady Reed produced two home runs and a single as the Ravens won at Earlham, 7-6, in the second game of a doubleheader. The team split two games at Manchester, with Reed doubling twice over the course of the two games.

Franklin

The Franklin College men’s 4×400 relay including Eli Cochrane and Drew McGaha placed fourth at the HCAC meet in a time of 3:26.15.

UIndy runner Andrew Bixler took eighth in the 3K steeplechase at the Sycamore Open in a time of 10:16.95.
