Trojans AD Knapp to depart

Scott Knapp, in his first season as the athletic director at Center Grove, will depart at the end of the school year to take the same post at Tri-West, which officially announced his hiring on Tuesday evening. Knapp had previously served as the assistant AD for the Trojans as well as at Franklin.

Softball

Royals win county tournament

Keagan Rothrock pitched a one-hitter, striking out 17, as Class 4A No. 1 Roncalli defeated visiting Decatur Central, 6-0, in the championship game of the Marion County tournament on Tuesday. Abbey Hofmann hit a three-run homer and Courtney Keller added a solo shot for the Royals (20-0).

Warriors clobber Falcons

Winning pitcher Kiley Sullivan helped her cause with a three-run home run in Whiteland’s 18-0 rout of Perry Meridian. Emma Piercy had three hits for the Class 4A No. 2 Warriors (18-0, 11-0 Mid-State), while Tara Watson drove in three runs.

Lancers hold on for victory

Edinburgh withstood a late rally to earn a 6-4 win over Living Water. Gracie Crawhorn hit a pair of home runs for the Lancers (9-8), while Kyah Streeval added one. Winning pitcher MacKenzie Bieker struck out 15 batters.

Baseball

Edinburgh hammers Crothersville

An eight-run first inning helped Edinburgh on its way to a 20-3 triumph at Crothersville on Tuesday. Noah Detling was 2 for 2 with four RBIs to lead the Lancers (5-12), while Jarrett Turner and Landen Burton each drove in three. Burton and Riley Palmeter each had three of Edinburgh’s 16 hits.

Whiteland’s skid continues

Perry Meridian extended Whiteland’s losing streak to six with an 8-1 home win. Peyton Emberton knocked in Peyton Dickens with the lone run for the Warriors (9-11, 5-6).

Girls tennis

Lancers sweep Morristown

Alyssa Funkhouser and Jillian Turner won a third-set tiebreaker at first doubles to finish off Edinburgh’s 5-0 sweep of Morristown on Tuesday. Bethany Burton, Jessica Walsh and Peyton Bryant claimed the three singles points in straight sets for the Lancers (8-5), while Zoe Sida and Gracie Myers cruised to victory at second doubles.

Braves ground Jets

Indian Creek took down Hauser, 5-0, winning each match in straight sets. Lauren Foster, Zoe Rayback and Kaitlynn Zupancic were singles winners for the Braves (11-3), who also got a win from Emilee Scott and Olivia Perry at No. 1 doubles and another from Avery Burress and Addy Tunell at No. 2.

Trojans fall to Irish

Center Grove was defeated by No. 11 Cathedral on Monday, 4-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Madison Herron and Peri Small got the Trojans’ lone point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Boys golf

Trojans blank Woodmen

Center Grove got the better of Greenwood in a match-play affair at Dye’s Walk on Tuesday, claiming an 8-0 victory.

Cougars pull out victory

Ian Reed carded a 36 and Sutton Piercefield added a 39 as Greenwood Christian got past Park Tudor, 162-165, at Hillview on Monday. The Cougars will play in the PAAC tournament Saturday at Wood Wind.

Unified track and field

Grizzly Cubs win three-way

Franklin earned victories over Indian Creek and Martinsville on Monday at Mooresville. Hunter Couden-Case led the Grizzly Cubs in the shot put and 100 meters and joined Reid Geisler, Josh Brown and Austin Zieniewics on the winning 4×100 relay.
