Mabel “Jean” Newkirk

MORRISTOWN AND FORMERLY OF FRANKLIN

Mabel “Jean” (Weaver) Newkirk, age 83 passed away Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. She was a current resident of Morristown and former resident of Nashville, Speedway and Franklin.

Jean was born on June 16, 1938, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to her parents, the late Alfonso S. and Nola Mae (Carr) Weaver. Jean retired in 1977 from Arvin`s Automotive in Franklin where she had been employed as a line worker for 11 years. She also worked independently as an Avon Consultant for 4 years.

Jean loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who filled her day with enjoyment and were the apple of her eye. She loved to bake for her family and for the residents of Willow Manor in Nashville, where she lived for several years. Jean collected butterflies and cardinals and spent her time crocheting, working crossword puzzles and reading inspirational books.

Jean will be missed by her children, Debbie Cline of Morgantown, Pamela (Matt) Reddington of Morristown and Leon (Monica) Ezell of Missouri; grandchildren, Brandie, Jason, Daisy, Crystal, Vanessa, Seth and Sonya; great grandchildren: Spencer, Kaylan, Mallory, Brittanie, Brooke, Brysen, Conner, Madison, Lexi, Emilee, Jase, Paisley, Joseph, Kendra and Brody; great-great grandchildren: Emma Jean, Leyland, Oakleigh, Rave, Haze and Levi.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, David D. Newkirk in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Paul Cline; and siblings, Sherman &William Weaver, Ruth Frame, Dorothy Nelson and Elvie Woolsey.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation &Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
