Edinburgh police arrest two for shoplifting at outlet mall

Police arrested two Indianapolis women who they say stole $2,400 from stores at the Indiana Premium Outlets in Edinburgh last weekend.

Tyeisha M. Dorsey, 30, was arrested on a charge of theft. Chantel Marks, 31, was arrested on charges of theft, possession of marijuana and failure to identify. The Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.

Last Friday, officers with the Edinburgh Police Department were dispatched to the Indiana Premium Outlets, 11622 NE Executive Drive, on a report of shoplifting in progress at Old Navy. Loss prevention investigators at the store had observed two shoplifters taking items from the store, and using a device to remove security sensors, according to an Edinburgh police news release.

When Edinburgh officers arrived, they were informed that the shoplifters had left the store with the stolen items and had driven further into the mall in a black SUV. Officers were later able to locate the SUV and conduct a traffic stop while the vehicle was still in the mall’s parking lot, the news release says.

The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Dorsey and Marks, and later loss prevention investigators were able to positively identify the two as shoplifters, according to the news release.

Once the two women were taken into custody, officers were able to recover trash bags full of clothing from not only Old Navy, but from eight additional stores. The total amount of clothing recovered has an estimated value of $2,400, the news release says.

Additional charges are still under investigation following the arrests, the news release says.

Dorsey and Marks were taken to the Bartholomew County jail after their arrests. Dorsey was released on a $7,500 bond, and Marks was released on a $21,000 bond.
