Caucus set to pick next New Whiteland clerk-treasurer

The Johnson County GOP is seeking applicants for New Whiteland Clerk-Treasurer.

Maribeth Alspach retired from the office on June 3, after serving the town since 1987. Alspach said she decided it was time to step back from the job because she felt she was ready to focus on “something different.” She is not quite sure what she wants to do, but said she would like to travel with her husband and spend more time with her children and grandchildren.

Johnson County GOP Chair Beth Boyce thanked Alspach for her long service to the party and the town in a letter to precinct committeepersons on the vacancy.

The county party will hold a caucus at the New Whiteland Town Hall at 7 p.m. on July 7 to fill the seat. Precinct committeepersons from the four precincts that make up the town — Pleasant 2, 7, 18 and 19 — will chose the next clerk-treasurer from among the candidates.

Any qualified Republican resident of New Whiteland can run for the office. By state statute, a clerk-treasurer is responsible for maintaining the town’s bank accounts, payroll, paying bills, managing investments, preparing the budget, keeping records for the town council, issuing certain licenses, collecting fees and other duties.

To run for the office, applicants must file a notarized CEB-5 form. The form can be printed from the Indiana Election Division website.

The form should be mailed it to or dropped off at 845 Richart Lane, Greenwood, IN 46142.

The form is due by 4 p.m. on July 4, 72 hours prior to the caucus.
