IHSAA approves tournament changes

After 20 years, the IHSAA voted to make changes to the state tournament format in boys and girls basketball, making the regionals a single-game format and the following weekend’s semistates two games. The regional had been two rounds since 2002.

A poll of principals, athletic directors and both boys and girls coaches showed widespread support for the idea, with nearly three-fourths of all respondents favoring the switch back to a single-round regional.

Additionally, there will be a blind draw after the regional round to determine the semistate pairings. Host sites will be determined in the fall.
