Greenwood FBC to break ground on new school Sunday

The First Baptist Church of Greenwood will break ground for its new location this weekend.

The church, which is currently located at 99 W. Main St, will be hosting an abbreviated dedication worship service on Sunday, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Lionheart Children’s Academy location, according to a church news release.

The worship service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Freedom Park Pavilion, 850 W. Stop 18 Road. The groundbreaking will take place at around 11:30 a.m. at the construction site located on the corner of Stop 18 Road and Averitt Road, the news release says.

The groundbreaking is taking place after the church secured funding and plans for a new location. The ceremony is the next step in the church’s construction for what will become a STEM-designed children’s academy that will bring Christian-based teachings to school-age children in an approved format, the news release says.

The church announced it’s plans to move to a new location last August. The $6.1 million project will lead to the construction of a 16,000-square-foot facility on a 26-acre property.
