Johnson County jail inmate dead after suicide attempt

An inmate in the Johnson County jail attempted suicide on Sunday and later died the next day.

Jocelyn Rhoades, 26, of Carmel, was found by correctional staff in her cell during watch hour Sunday night, according to a news release sent by Sheriff Duane Burgess Friday afternoon.

Staff performed CPR and notified EMS immediately, he said.

Rhoades was then transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital and then taken to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She died from her injuries at the hospital on Monday, Burgess said.

No foul play is expected, he said.

The sheriff’s office has been in contact with her family since the incident occurred, Burgess said.

The Indiana Department of Corrections and the Federal Department of Prisoners were notified of the incident and death on Monday, the release says.
