Funeral, procession for Greenwood officer to take place Tuesday

The visitation and funeral for a Greenwood police officer who died while off duty Wednesday will take place early next week.

Officer Tim Guinan, 51, of Nineveh, died on Wednesday.

On Monday, a public visitation for Guinan will take place from 4-8 p.m. at Greenwood Christian Church, 2045 Averitt Road, Greenwood. Private visitations for the family and law enforcement will take place prior to that time, Greenwood police announced Friday.

On Tuesday, members of the public will be able to attend a viewing before the funeral from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Christian Church.

After the funeral, military honors and honors from the Greenwood Police and Fire Honor Guard will be conducted in the parking lot of the church. A funeral procession will then leave the church to go to the Greenwood Police Department for the Guinan’s last 10-42 call and then go back to the church, police say. The 10-42 call is a ceremonial end to his career with the department.

The procession route will follow Averitt Road to Smith Valley Road to Meridian Street.

From Meridian Street, the route will go north to Surina Way and then to Washington Street.

From Washington Street, the route will go north to Main Street and goes east before turning onto Sheek Road. The route then goes from Sheek Road to Worthsville Road.

The route will go west on Worthsville all the way to Greenwood Christian Church, which is at the intersection of Worthsville and Averitt roads.
