Frankfort man charged with meth dealing in Franklin

A Frankfort man has been charged with dealing methamphetamine after a drug-buy investigation in Franklin last month.

Samuel Todd Young, 53, was charged with dealing meth, a Level 2 felony, in Johnson County Superior Court 3 on June 15. The Daily Journal was notified of his arrest and charges on Friday.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into Young in early June after receiving information that Young was selling meth. A source told detectives that Young had sold them drugs about “1,000 prior times” and that they had bought drugs from him in Indianapolis. Young had a previous criminal history with narcotics, including dealing cocaine, according to a probable cause affidavit filed on June 15.

An undercover detective then began a text conversation with Young in early June, during which they discussed distributing and selling meth. In a subsequent conversation the next day, Young said he could sell the undercover detective an amount of meth, that meets the criteria for a Level 2 felony. He also said he would deliver it, the affidavit says.

The detective then said they would be open to buying that amount of meth and Young agreed to the deal, according to the affidavit.

Young arranged to meet the detective at an apartment complex on the 1000th block of W. Jefferson St. in Franklin, according to the affidavit.

Sheriff’s deputies then joined forces with Franklin police to conduct the drug buy. On the afternoon of June 9, Young arrived at the complex and told detectives he was there. Detectives then detained him, citing the overt action of him traveling from Frankfort for the drug deal, the affidavit says.

Young freely spoke with detectives when questioned. Young originally told detectives he only had marijuana in his vehicle, however, he then said he had marijuana and a meth pipe in his car. He then changed his story again, saying that he had marijuana, a meth pipe and meth in his car, and told detectives where to find the meth, according to the affidavit.

When detectives searched Young’s car, they found marijuana along with a cardboard box with two packages of meth inside, a weight of 31.9 grams without the packaging. The cardboard box had Young’s name and a Frankfort address on it, the affidavit says.

The drugs were later tested and were confirmed to be meth, the affidavit says.

In a subsequent interview at the Johnson County Law Enforcement Facility, Young told detectives he had bought meth from a supplier of his three days earlier, and admitted to selling the drug to multiple customers. Detectives later searched Young’s phone, which confirmed that he sold meth, according to the affidavit.

Detectives later asked him if he felt sorry for dealing meth. Young said he wasn’t making anything from selling it, and that he pulled his money together with someone else to try to get a better price, according to the affidavit.

Young was booked into the Johnson County jail last month, and his bond was set at $30,000. The bond was paid on Thursday and he was later released.
