D. William “Bill” Harbert

GREENWOOD, IN.

D. William “Bill” Harbert, 75, of Greenwood, IN and lifelong resident of Johnson County, IN passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born July 11, 1947, in Franklin, IN to Donald R. and Florence Lyn (Dickinson) Harbert.

He married Brenda Jean (McClain) on January 19, 1969, at Rocklane Christian Church in Greenwood, IN, she preceded him in death on June 7, 2009. He later married Etheleen (Williams) Coffman Harbert on October 17, 2015; she survives.

Bill was a 1965 graduate of Clark Township High School in Johnson County, IN and received his BS degree in Agricultural Business Management from Purdue University.

He was raised on the family farm and worked on the side with his family in the Ag business including spending ten years with Production Credit of the Farm Credit System and managed the Franklin, IN office for several years. He left the Farm Credit system in 1985 and spent 30 years in his own business as a farm real estate appraiser. He received his state certified appraiser license in 1992. He appraised over two thirds of the counties in Indiana along with appraising in Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. He retired in 2015.

Bill served two terms on the Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation Board where he held various positions including board president. He also served several terms of the Johnson County Extension Board and helped create the Johnson County 4-H Council and served as its first president. He was a member and former president of the Johnson County Farm Bureau Board.

He and his wife Etheleen enjoyed spending winters in Estero, Florida and had served as president of Estero Bay Village.

He was a former member of the Community Church of Greenwood where he served on various committees and attended Emmanuel Church Greenwood Campus at Stones Crossing, Greenwood.

Survivors include his wife Etheleen (Williams) Coffman Harbert of Greenwood, IN, two sons Shawn David Harbert of Fishers, IN and Jeffrey Ryan Harbert, and daughter-in-law Amy of Whiteland, IN, stepdaughter Kimberly Cave (Donald) of Indianapolis, IN, two grandchildren Josslynn Ryann Harbert and Owen Brody Harbert, two sisters Barbara Anne Evans (Joe) of Brownsburg, IN and Rebecca Sue Severs of Indianapolis, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald R. and Florence Lyn (Dickinson) Harbert and his wife Brenda Jean (McClain) Harbert.

Pastor Bill Turner will conduct a service on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 12 Noon at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. Friends may call Monday, July 18, 2022, from 4PM until 8PM at the mortuary. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN.
