Locals shine at Age Group State

Johnson County was well represented at the top of the podium during the Age Group State Championships, which concluded Sunday at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Henry Lyness of Center Grove Aquatic Club was the local swimmer collecting the most hardware, taking first place among 13- and 14-year-olds in the 50-meter freestyle (25.68 seconds), 100 freestyle (55.05) and 100 backstroke (1:00.11) while also finishing second in the 200 backstroke, fourth in the 100 butterfly and helping CGAC to four top-four relay finishes.

Aleksandr Ries of Franklin Regional Swim Team also claimed a pair of titles in the 13-14 age group, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.19 and the 200 breast in 2:30.82. Another FRST swimmer, Trevor Smith, was the 10 and under runner-up in the 100 backstroke and also third in both the 50 back and 100 freestyle.

Other top point scorers from the county included Jovie Mowrey, Ethan Preyss, Zhoey Bratcher and Lucas Stephon of FRST; Matthew Cuadros and Camron Mazdai of CGAC; and Nick McCoy from the Greenwood Gators.
