Two from ‘Johnson County: Most Wanted’ poster sentenced on dealing charges

Two people who were featured on a “Johnson County: Most Wanted” poster last November have been sentenced to prison for dealing methamphetamine.

Last November, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office posted a rare “Johnson County: Most Wanted” poster on social media, looking for six suspects wanted on drug charges, and another wanted on a burglary charge. Some of the wanted suspects were holdouts from previous warrant roundups, Major Damian Katt, investigations division commander, told the Daily Journal last year.

Two of the people who were featured on the poster have since been brought into the Johnson County jail on warrants and have been convicted of dealing methamphetamine.

Jessica Danielle Johnson, 35, of Columbus, pleaded guilty to two counts of dealing meth, a Level 4 felony, in Johnson County Superior Court 2 on July 14. She was sentenced to seven years in an Indiana Department of Correction Facility and received a jail credit of 74 days. Both counts will be served concurrently, or at the same time, according to online court records.

She is required to pay $936 in court fees and restitution.

Johnson was charged in October 2020 after deputies gathered evidence that Johnson sold drugs twice in July and August of 2020 in Franklin, according to a probable cause affidavit. A warrant was issued for her arrest in December 2020 and the warrant was served on May 4.

Michael Lyster, 42, of Indianapolis, pleaded guilty to one count of dealing meth as a Level 3 felony and one count of dealing meth as a Level 4 felony, in Johnson County Superior Court 2 on July 21. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a jail credit of 157 days. Both counts will be served concurrently, online court records show.

He is required to pay $640 in court fees and restitution.

Lyster was charged in November 2020 after deputies gathered evidence that he sold drugs twice in August 2020 at locations in Greenwood and Franklin, according to another probable cause affidavit. A warrant was issued for his arrest in July 2021 after he failed to appear for a hearing, and the warrant was later served in March, according to online court records.

Since November, only one other person featured on the poster has been brought into the county jail on a warrant stemming from their case.

Terry Lee Thornburgh, Jr., 43, of Bargersville, was charged in January 2021 with possession of meth, a Level 3 felony; and possession of cocaine, a narcotic drug and a syringe, all Level 6 felonies. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and carrying a handgun without a license, both misdemeanors.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Thornburgh during a traffic stop in January after a K9 detected the presence of drugs in his car. Officers saw a glass smoking device through his window. They later found 59 hypodermic needles and about 2 grams of meth in a plastic baggie, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Johnson County Circuit Court.

Deputies also found a second baggie that contained 26 grams of meth, five grams of cocaine, 1.5 grams of heroin and three grams of marijuana. They also found a gun that Thornburgh did not have a license to carry, court documents show.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in March 2021, and it was served nearly one year later, according to online court records.

The three outstanding warrants for people featured in the poster are for Chadwick Eugene Smoot, 39, of Whiteland; Richard D. Hacker, 38, of Franklin; and Jawan Tattum Thompson, 23, of Indianapolis.

Smoot was charged in December 2020 with dealing cocaine, a Level 4 felony. Franklin police had gathered evidence that Smoot sold 3.3 grams of cocaine, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Johnson County Circuit Court.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in December 2020, according to online court records.

Hacker was charged in March 2021 with one count of dealing a controlled substance as a Level 4 felony, and one count of dealing a controlled substance as a Level 6 felony. Deputies had gathered evidence that Hacker sold drugs three times in April 2020 at locations in Greenwood and Franklin, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Johnson County Circuit Court.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in March 2021, according to online court records.

Thompson was charged in March with burglary, a Level 5 felony. A warrant was issued for his arrest in March 2021 in connection with a 2019 robbery at a Greenwood gun store. Security footage showed a man matching Thompson’s description participating in the burglary with another man. DNA evidence found on a hammer used in the crime matched Thompson’s DNA, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Johnson County Superior Court 3.

Cell phone records also showed Thompson was in the area around the time of the burglary, court documents show.
