In the early hours of Monday, law enforcement officers spread out through Johnson County to arrest more than 30 people on narcotics charges during one of the largest roundups in the last year.
Multiple agencies came together for the roundup, a collaboration between the Franklin Police Department, Greenwood Police Department and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. The agencies also received help from the Edinburgh Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office, which served warrants to people who live in their jurisdictions, along with Johnson County Court Services, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.
The roundup netted 32 arrests, with another 17 people remaining at large, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office news release.
For months, narcotics detectives had been conducting undercover transactions and forwarding those cases to the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office to be filed. Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess, along with Franklin Police Chief Kirby Cochran and Franklin Police Chief James Ison assigned several law enforcement officers to work together in a joint focus on narcotics investigations, Burgess said in a news release.
“The team works together day in and day out, much like a formal task force, to combat an ever-growing narcotics issue and also to look into any serious crimes that occur in Johnson County as a whole,” he said.
Local police will continue to search for the 17 wanted individuals who have warrants out for their arrests. Individuals who are still at large are asked to turn themselves in because local police will find them eventually, Burgess said.
Men and women between the ages of 18 and 59 were arrested, including relatives. The relationships between some of the targets include mother/son, girlfriend/boyfriend, girlfriend/girlfriend and husband/wife, the news release said.
Those arrested are from all over the county, and from places nearby including Indianapolis, Danville, Brownsburg, Morgantown and Anderson.
Those who were targeted in the roundup had a combined total of 108 charges, with the most common charge being dealing in methamphetamine. While almost all of the charges were drug-related, there were a few charges that weren’t, including charges of habitual traffic violation, false informing and neglect of a dependent, the news release said.
One woman who was arrested, Natoshia Alldredge, 32, of Franklin, was the target of a previous roundup, the news release said. Alldredge was previously arrested during a March 2016 roundup, and is facing two counts of dealing hash, one count of dealing a Schedule II controlled substance and two counts of dealing marijuana.
In one case, police say a woman brought an infant with her to an alleged drug deal. Autumn Felumero, 27, of Greenwood, has been charged with two counts of dealing meth, one count of neglect of a dependant and one count of dealing in marijuana for drug deals she allegedly completed earlier this year.
In five other cases, targets allegedly brought guns with them that were visible during the deals, including a semi-automatic rifle, the news release says.
