Here’s the latest on I-69 construction in Johnson County

Changes to traffic patterns on Smith Valley Road are coming this week.

Traffic on the road east of State Road 37 will shift this week, so a left-turn lane can be installed for southbound traffic as construction workers work on the Interstate 69 interchange on Smith Valley Road. Construction crews will also place concrete barriers on State Road 37 between State Road 144 and Banta Roads, according to a weekly construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

In Marion County, overnight closures of the southbound Interstate 65 ramp to Interstate 465 westbound will continue each day from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. There will be 20-minute traffic stoppages on I-465, as construction crews continue the Carson Avenue overpass demolition. Workers are also installing a new gas line on Southport Road near State Road 37, closing Southport Road’s center lanes, INDOT officials say.

In Morgan County, an extension connecting local traffic along the west side of I-69 between Martinsville and Old State Road 37 will likely open this week. Although final paving is finished on the I-69 mainline and State Road 252 ramps, the speed limit is still reduced to 45 miles per hour as construction crews work on permanent striping and grinding rumble strips. Drivers should also be cautious of workers completing side-slope repairs on the shoulder on northbound State Road 37 near the Perry Road overpass, INDOT officials say.
