Boys tennis

Woodmen edge Grizzly Cubs

Carter Chatham rallied for a three-set victory at second singles to lift Greenwood to a 3-2 triumph over Franklin on Thursday. Noah Paswater added a win at No. 1 singles for the Woodmen (3-1, 1-1 Mid-State), while Aidyn Green and Blake Reynolds came out on top at first doubles. The Grizzly Cubs’ points came at third singles (Nathan Neville) and second doubles (Pryce Rucker and Luke Sherry).

Edinburgh falls to Waldron

Austin Brockman eked out a three-set triumph at No. 2 singles, but Edinburgh wound up on the losing end of a 4-1 score against Waldron.

Warriors nipped by Quakers

Whiteland dropped a 3-2 decision to Plainfield. The Warriors’ two points came in the top two singles positions, where Spencer Gillespie and Ty McCullars both won in straight sets.

Girls golf

Warriors top Golden Bears

Chloe Cooper was the medalist with a 45 as Whiteland topped Shelbyville at Bear Chase, 201-242, on Thursday. Kylie McGovern added a 49 for the Warriors, followed by Karley Hoagland with a 51.

Lancers defeat Twisters

Edinburgh posted a 207-255 win over Oldenburg Academy at Blue Bear. Izzy Richardson led all players with a 43 for the Lancers, while Macie Blandford contributed a 51.

Braves come out on top

Hannah Emenhiser’s 43 helped Indian Creek to a 210-227 triumph over Brown County at Salt Creek. Reese Tunell finished with a 53 for the Braves.

Volleyball

Edinburgh victorious in three

A balanced attack, steered by Kyah Streeval’s 31 assists, lifted Edinburgh to a 25-14, 25-12, 25-13 sweep of South Decatur on Thursday. Gracie Crawhorn and Jessica Walsh had eight kills apiece for the Lancers, while Zoe Sida and MacKenzie Bieker each chipped in six. Walsh also had 19 digs in the win.

Grizzly Cubs swept on road

Franklin suffered a 26-24, 25-20, 25-13 setback at Columbus East. Scarlett Kimbrell had seven kills for the Grizzly Cubs (1-1), while Rose Mahin had 12 digs and Veronica Whitaker served up a pair of aces.

Boys soccer

Trojans drop road match

Class 3A No. 12 Center Grove lost at Bloomington South on Thursday, 2-1. Ely Detty netted the lone goal for the Trojans.

Baseball

Royals name new coach

Pat Antone was introduced as Roncalli’s new head coach on Thursday. Antone, who guided Boone Grove to a Class 2A state championship in 2018, served as the coach at Columbus North last season.
