Here’s the latest on I-69 and State Road 135 construction in Johnson County

Interstate 69

Traffic shifts along State Road 37 will cause delays in Johnson County this week.

Drivers can expect those delays Thursday, as one lane of State Road 37 will close to adjust temporary barriers for a traffic shift onto new pavement. Last week, northbound traffic on the road shifted to new pavement north of State Road 144. In order to prepare for a new State Road 144 bridge over what will be Interstate 69, State Road 144 won’t have dedicated turn lanes at the traffic signal after this week, according to a weekly update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

In Marion County, Southport Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction at Harding Street beginning Monday night, as construction crews work on aligning Southport Road with a future I-69 interchange. Banta Road reopened to traffic east of State Road 37 following gas line work last week, and Edgewood Avenue closed. Nightly lane closures along Interstate 465 near Mann Road and Carson Avenue for median barrier wall removal and bridgework will continue, INDOT officials say.

In Morgan County, drivers have a new traffic signal at Southview Drive and Commercial Boulevard in Martinsville. Another traffic signal, at Ohio Street and Ruth Rusie Way, will be installed in the coming weeks, INDOT officials say.

State Road 135

The State Road 135 structure replacement project is facing another delay, due to ongoing utility conflicts. Workers need to locate and move a fiber optic line 1.23 miles north of State Road 252 in Trafalgar before construction can resume. The work was originally supposed to be completed in June and July. Through traffic should use State Road 252, U.S. 31, State Road 144 and State Road 44 as detours. The road is open for local traffic, INDOT officials say.
