Indy man charged with sexual misconduct with minor

An Indianapolis man has been charged with a sex crime after prosecutors say he inappropriately touched a 14-year-old in July.

Cayden Isaiah Johnes, 19, was charged with sexual misconduct, a Level 5 felony, in Johnson County Superior Court 3 on Wednesday.

The investigation into Johnes began after a woman came to the Franklin Police Department on July 17 to report that her teenager had been molested by him at a hotel on the 100 block of Umbarger Lane in Franklin. The teen underwent a medical exam at an Indianapolis hospital and told doctors that Johnes had touched them inappropriately, according to a probable cause affidavit.

When police spoke with the teen, they said that they had been in their mother’s hotel room with Johnes, where he was also staying, and allegedly began flirting with him. Johnes allegedly flirted back, and began touching her inappropriately and kissed her, the affidavit says.

The teen also told police about another inappropriate-touching incident that allegedly occurred in a car in a parking lot while they were listening to music. Johnes began touching the teen, and they said no. However, Johnes covered the teen’s mouth and proceeded to touch them anyway, and later stopped after the teen pulled his hand away, according to the affidavit.

Police then attempted to locate Johnes, who had been arrested on a Shelby County warrant. They were unable to track him down until August, and then were able to schedule an interview at his home in Indianapolis on Aug. 24, the affidavit said.

When Johnes spoke with police, he allegedly said he was being accused of rape when he didn’t do it. He said the teen had a crush on him and denied that they had any contact at first, according to the affidavit.

Later, Johnes allegedly told police that they kissed, and eventually admitted that the teen had sent him a nude photo via Snapchat that he kept. He did not send them a nude photo in return, the affidavit said.

Johnes then allegedly said that the teen “begged” him to touch them. Later, he said that he felt horrible after it was over and that it was wrong, according to the affidavit.

As Johnes continued to speak to police, he allegedly blamed the teen for what happened and said he had told them no. When officers asked what he could have done to prevent this, he allegedly said that he tried and that other than leaving, he had no idea what else he could’ve done, according to the affidavit.

Detectives remarked in the affidavit that it appeared he was not remorseful about what had happened and only became upset after he found out he was going to jail.

After Johnes was told he was going to be arrested, he became confrontational and indicated to detectives that he wanted to fight. Detectives asked for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to assist in the arrest, and they did, according to the affidavit.

While he was being arrested, Johnes was verbally abusive and combative, and at one point, he intentionally struck his head on a wall. He was then taken to the Johnson County jail, the affidavit says.

Johnes remains at the jail, with his bond set at $6,600.
