Indy woman gets probation, 126 days in jail for dealing

An Indianapolis woman who was charged with dealing narcotics in 2019 will serve most of an eight-year sentence on probation.

Ashlyn N. Coffey, 28, will serve a total of 126 days in incarceration and have over seven years of supervision for one count of dealing in a narcotic drug as a Level 4 Felony and one count of dealing in a narcotic drug as a Level 5 felony. She was sentenced on Aug. 30 in Johnson County Superior Court 3, after she pled guilty to the charges on Aug. 23.

As part of her plea, 126 days of her sentence will be executed and 95 days of the sentence has already been served. She will also serve one year of home detention, with the rest of the sentence to be suspended to probation. She will also be required to join a drug treatment program, according to court officials.

In September 2019, Franklin police conducted an undercover operation where a detective bought heroin from Coffey on two different occasions, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in February 2020.

During the first drug buy on Sept. 16, 2019, Coffey sold the detective heroin outside of a grocery store on the 2000 block of N. Morton St. in Franklin. The detective met Coffey in the store’s parking lot, and the two walked to the store’s entrance before beginning the deal, the affidavit said.

The second drug buy took place two days later at a Greenwood apartment complex on the 1500 block of Stonehedge West Drive in Greenwood. In this case, Coffey showed up to the deal with an unknown male, in a truck. The detective and Coffey completed the deal, and Coffey then left the complex, the affidavit said.
