Elbert “Ted” Roy Arnold

Elbert “Ted” “Pop” Roy Arnold, 87, passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 2, 2022 at Community South Hospital.

He was born on December 13, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ralph “Ted” Murray Arnold and Katherine (Isley) Arnold. Ted married Bonnie (Sanderfer) Arnold on July 21, 1984. She lovingly survives after 38 years of marriage. Other survivors include his children, Patrick (Sandy), Rhonda, Rick (Ginger), Robert (Marianne), Michael (Kelly), Joseph (Allison), Clara; grandchildren, Shawn, Daniel, Alysia, Taylor, Emily, Tyler, Nicholas, Steve, Keira, Kevin, Mandy, Lyndsay, Zach, Ryan Z., Danielle, Ryan J.; many great grandchildren; siblings, Susan (Jack), Ed (Barb), Tony; sister-in-law, Sherry; and many nieces and nephews.

Ted was preceded in passing by his parents, Ted and Katherine; daughter, Sondra; son-in-law, Robbie; and siblings, Robert, Ralph, Mike, Helen, and Bruce.

Ted was a 1952 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School. He was a member of the Navy Reserves. Ted retired from the Indianapolis Fire Department in 1979 after 20 years of service. He went on to work for security at St. Francis Hospital where he retired after 15 years. He was able to retire early but chose to continue to working for others with his various skills.

He was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge F&AM #107 and attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin.

Ted was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all. He loved his family and taught each of his children to work hard for everything, never quit, and always be an inspiration to others. His faith was his source of strength that carried him through his life. Ted was a proud, retired Indianapolis Firefighter. He had a passion for Notre Dame as well as IU and Bobby Knight.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive, Franklin, Indiana 46131. Burial will follow at Young’s Creek Cemetery in Franklin. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Indianapolis Firefighters Museum and Survive Alive at 748 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN, 46204.
