Melvin Ray Conder

GREENWOOD

Melvin Ray Conder, 83, of Greenwood, Indiana, went home to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 5, 2022, while resting in his home. He was preceded in death, four months to the day, by his loving wife of 60 years, Lolah Laura Conder.

Melvin was born October 22, 1938, in Jasonville, Indiana to James Lawrence and Hazel (Barton) Conder. At a young age, Melvin lost his father in a tragic car accident. After the accident, Melvin, his older brother James and mother remained in Jasonville through his childhood/teenage years.

After graduating from Jasonville High School, Melvin honorably served his country for four years in the United States Air Force. During his time in the Air Force, he was introduced to Lolah Laura Boston and after 3 years of letter writing and dating, they were married on December 16, 1962. A few years into their marriage, Melvin and Laura built a home in Greenwood, Indiana where they raised their three children.

Melvin retired from General Motors Truck and Bus Plant where he worked 40+ years as a Crane Signalman.

Early in their marriage the Conders began faithfully attending and serving at Suburban Baptist Church and Christian School. If the church doors were open, the family was there. Melvin served as a deacon, faithfully volunteered in the church bus ministry and was an AWANA leader. He even went as far as becoming an “explosives expert” so he could help set off firework displays for the annual church Independence Day Celebrations.

Survivors include his children, Kevin Conder (Joyce) of Whiteland, IN, his daughter, Lorri Turcios (Joel) of Greenville, SC and Matthew Conder (Adriana) of Juarez, Mexico; grandchildren, Malone Conder, Donovan Turcios (Sarah), Parker Turcios, Zachary Conder, Russell Conder, and Carissa Conder.

Melvin deeply loved the Lord and his family. His loved ones that remain look forward to a heavenly reunion.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 12 p.m. with a visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN, 46143.
