Jean Carolyn (Newell) Snodgrass

GREENWOOD, IN.

Jean Carolyn (Newell) Snodgrass, 87 of Greenwood, IN passed away Tuesday August 30, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born May 9, 1935, in Westlake, OH to Clyde and Ruth (Day) Newell. She married Marvin J. Snodgrass on November 6, 1965, at Broadway Methodist Church in Indianapolis, IN. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1995.

After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University in home economics and food nutrition, Jean served in several capacities in food service, including food service director, area supervisor, food production specialist, dietitian, cafeteria and executive dining room manager, assistant manager of industrial food service, and culinary instructor. She worked for employers such as Indianapolis Public Schools, Franklin Community School Corporation as the Food Service Director, YMCA, Central Nine Vocational School as a Culinary Instructor, Eli Lilly and Co., at Ford Motor Company and the Executive Kitchen at Stouffer Foods, Ford Motor Company, Szabo Food Service, and Manor Catering Company. She also did catering parties for radio and television celebrities and for visiting dignitaries, such as Vice President Hubert Humphrey and Mr. Stouffer of Stouffer Foods. She retired from IPL on May 25, 2010.

Jean enjoyed watching her kid’s sports and being a team mom and booster. She loved sharing her passion for cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and collecting advertisement items, especially Coca Cola and Mickey Mouse. In her younger days, she enjoyed Singletons, Derby parties, bowling, German fests, dancing, and sailboats. She enjoyed the water and spending time at Lake Erie and Put-in-Bay growing up.

Survivors include her son Mark Snodgrass (Lori Wright Rollins) of Greenwood, IN, Vicki Miller (Scott) of Morgantown, IN, grandchildren Mariah Snodgrass Beck (Andrew) of Trafalgar/Evansville, IN, Micah Snodgrass and Aidan Snodgrass of Thousand Oaks, CA, Eli Miller and Addi Miller of Morgantown, IN, great grandchild Tatem Beck, step grandchildren Justin Neff (Liz) of Mason, OH and Jared Neff of Nashville, TN, and a brother Bruce Newell of Dallas, TX.

Her parents, husband, and sister, Diane Newell Trebilcock, preceded her in death.

Pastor Burt Brock will conduct a service on Tuesday September 13, 2022, at 7PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN, which will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. Friends may call Tuesday September 13, 2022, from 5PM until service time at the mortuary.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday September 14, 2022, at 11AM at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN.
