Unified flag football

Sectional brackets unveiled

Johnson County’s three Unified teams received their postseason roadmaps when the IHSAA released its sectional draw on Monday evening.

Playing in the Mooresville Sectional on Oct. 1, Greenwood will play a first-round game against the host Pioneers, with the winner to take on Indian Creek in a semifinal matchup. On the bottom half of the bracket, Franklin takes on Martinsville in the first round for the chance to play 2021 state runner-up Franklin Central in the other semi.

The sectional champ will advance into the Mooresville Regional on Oct. 8. The state finals will be Oct. 15 at Grand Park in Westfield.

Boys tennis

Braves survive against Franklin

In a battle that featured three matches going the full three sets, Indian Creek kept its perfect record intact with a 3-2 triumph over Franklin on Monday. Peyton Strunk won a third-set tiebreaker at first singles to clinch the match for the Braves (16-0), who also got wins from Grant Dalton at No. 3 singles and Trent Volz and Aaron Spurgeon at No. 2 doubles.

The Grizzly Cubs got three-set victories from Reid Davidson at second singles and the team of Pryce Rucker and Luke Sherry at No. 1 doubles.

Warriors tame Cougars

Whiteland earned a 4-1 victory over Greenfield-Central. Spencer Gillespie and Ty McCullars were victorious in the top two singles spots for the Warriors (16-4), Chase Koester and Kai Koester won at No. 1 doubles and Gavin Stubbe and Jeremiah Hurt locked up the point at second doubles.

Royals eliminated from tourney

Despite a win from Henry Howe at No. 1 singles, Roncalli suffered a 4-1 setback against Franklin Central in the Marion County tournament.

Volleyball

Roncalli prevails in five-setter

Led by a 20-kill, 21-dig, four-ace performance from Logan Bell, Roncalli pulled out a 23-25, 25-21, 25-16, 20-25, 15-13 triumph over Perry Meridian on Monday. The Royals (15-5) also got 17 kills from Faith Burch and 35 digs from Aly Kirkhoff.

Girls soccer

Royals pummel Hawks

Roncalli rolled to a 7-0 win over Decatur Central on Monday. Summer Fishel and Rosie Elsener scored two goals apiece for the Royals (7-6-1), while Nora Jordan, Camryn Clark and Anna Povinelli each added one. Clark and Hannah Morgan each contributed a pair of assists.

Franklin College

Women’s soccer falls by one

Franklin College got a second-half goal from Jaiden Baker but couldn’t net the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to Asbury on Monday evening. Makenna Mundy made five saves for the Grizzlies (2-4).
