Indy man charged with meth dealing after Greenwood traffic stop

An Indianapolis man is facing a high-level meth dealing charge after police say he concealed drugs in his underwear during a Greenwood traffic stop.

Cody S. Thompson, 21, was charged with dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony, in Johnson County Superior Court 2 on Sept. 20.

Greenwood police were on patrol traveling southbound on Interstate 65 around 8:19 p.m. on Sept. 15 when an officer saw a gray sedan going 85 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone. The sedan was also following another vehicle too closely, so officers pulled over the sedan near mile marker 95, according to a probable cause affidavit.

As an officer approached the passenger side, he noticed that one of the passengers, later identified as Thompson, allegedly made movements that led the officer to believe he was attempting to hide contraband. The officer then asked for a K-9, according to the affidavit.

The officer then spoke with the driver and the other passengers. One passenger allegedly said they had been previously arrested for possession of marijuana and said they were on federal probation for intent to distribute cocaine, the affidavit says.

While this was underway, the K-9 and their partner began a search near the vehicle. The K-9 indicated to officers that narcotics may be in the vehicle, so officers ordered everyone to exit the sedan.

After everyone exited, officers searched Thompson. While they were searching him, his pants fell down past his buttocks, and officers noticed his butt was clenched tightly as if he was concealing something in his underwear, according to the affidavit.

Officers then searched the car where they found a scale near where Thompson was sitting, and the scale contained a white substance. An officer also spoke with the driver of the vehicle, who allegedly said that Thompson may be hiding narcotics, the affidavit says.

After speaking with the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office, officers searched Thompson near his groin area and felt an unknown item, the affidavit says. When they looked inside his underwear, they allegedly found a baggie containing a white substance. The substance was later determined to be meth.

Thompson later allegedly told officers the meth was his, and that he sells the drug. When officers asked how much he sold that day, he said he sold about a quarter pound of meth, according to the affidavit.

He was later taken to the Johnson County jail, where he remains as of Monday. His bond is set at $30,000.
