Boys tennis

Sectional pairings released

The IHSAA revealed its postseason brackets on Monday evening, just in time for the start of sectional play today — and as is usually the case at the Center Grove Sectional, there will be plenty of familiar matchups.

In first-round play today, No. 25 Whiteland and Greenwood will face off at 4:30 p.m. The winner will take on the host Trojans, the state’s No. 7 team in one semifinal on Wednesday afternoon, while Indian Creek and Franklin meet in the other. The championship match will be Thursday.

Edinburgh drew a Wednesday first-round match with Columbus East in the Columbus North Sectional.

Braves defeat Artesians

Indian Creek finished off a 19-1 regular season by defeating Martinsville on Monday, 4-1. Brendan Conner and Grant Dalton were winners at second and third singles for the Braves, Aiden Pemberton and Landon Sichting won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles and Trent Volz and Aaron Spurgeon did the same in the No. 2 spot.

Grizzly Cubs edged in finale

Franklin suffered a 3-2 loss to Jennings County. The Grizzly Cubs got a win from Nathan Neville at third singles and another from Ian Blackketter and Dylan Funkhouser at second doubles.

Lancers fall one short

Edinburgh was defeated by Morristown, 3-2. Milas Burkman prevailed in three sets at No. 1 singles for the Lancers, while the top doubles team of Max Blandford and Austin Brockman also came out on top.

Girls soccer

Trojans edge Golden Eagles

Jenna Margiotti scored the lone goal of the match off an assist from Emily Karr as Class 3A No. 8 Center Grove pulled out a 1-0 victory over 2A No. 5 Guerin Catholic on Monday. The Trojans improve to 11-2-2 on the season with the win.

Woodmen blank Falcons

Kendyl Farmer scored two goals and assisted on another as Greenwood defeated Perry Meridian, 3-0. Emily Metzger scored the other goal for the Woodmen (9-3-2, 4-3 Mid-State), while Bre Wheatley and Kate Berger combined on the shutout.

Warriors cruise to victory

Whiteland overwhelmed Triton Central, 9-1. Bethany Floyd, Ella Proctor and Alexa LaPorte tallied two goals apiece for the Warriors (9-5), who also got one goal apiece from Haley Achs, Madison Fleury and Grace Scudder.

Volleyball

Lancers sweep Mohawks

Edinburgh topped Waldron in three sets on Monday, 25-15, 27-25, 25-12. Gracie Crawhorn had 15 kills, four blocks and 26 digs to lead the Lancers, who also got seven kills and 22 digs from Jessica Walsh.

Royals win at Heritage

Monica Jones’ 21 assists and 11 digs helped Roncalli to a 25-20, 25-10, 25-17 road sweep of Heritage Christian.
