Greenwood and Center Grove may have been pulled away from the other local Class 4A volleyball teams in sectional play, but they couldn’t avoid one another.
The Woodmen and Trojans, who met in a sectional championship match at Shelbyville last fall, will face off against one another in an opening-round match next week, this time at the Bloomington South Sectional. The winner advances into a semifinal date against the host Panthers.
Also in 4A, Franklin and Whiteland will be playing in the Columbus East Sectional, with the Grizzly Cubs playing a first-round match against East Central and the Warriors taking on the host Olympians. Franklin would get Columbus North if it reaches the semifinals; Whiteland would meet Shelbyville.
Roncalli will host a Class 4A sectional and play Franklin Central in the opening round.
In Class 3A, Indian Creek will begin play at the Edgewood Sectional with a first-round match against West Vigo. Win that, and the Braves would see Brown County in the semifinal round.
Greenwood Christian drew a bye in the Class A Central Christian Sectional and will play the winner between Victory College Prep and Providence Cristo Rey. In other Class A sectional action at Waldron, Edinburgh also got a first-round bye; the Lancers await the Oldenburg Academy-Morristown winner in semifinal play.
Should Edinburgh advance through to the regional, it will play on its home floor Oct. 22.
