Center Grove boys tennis rolls into regional final

Center Grove’s quest for a sixth consecutive regional championship in boys tennis didn’t hit any snags on Tuesday.

The seventh-ranked Trojans dropped just seven games in all — none of them in singles play — while cruising to a 5-0 semifinal rout of Franklin Central. They’ll play Shelbyville in the final at 4:30 p.m. today.

All three singles matches were decided by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Tyler Lane swept Hayden Hege in the No. 1 spot, Loc Pham defeated Ryan Mueller at No. 2 and Daksh Patel took care of Brandon Engel in the third position.

At first doubles, Max Williams and Evan Davis earned a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Landon Carlisle and Ethan Jackson. The Trojans’ second duo of Carson Bush and Dimitrios Kandris took a pair of 6-1 sets against Aaron Mahoney and Chase Rigler.

In the individual doubles tournament, Indian Creek’s team of Landon Sichting and Aiden Pemberton picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory in their first-round sectional match; they will play Triton Central’s tandem of Griffin Sego and Benjamin Toth for a sectional title today.
