Work starts Monday on State Road 252 bridge west of Morgantown

Drivers who travel on State Road 252 west of Morgantown should prepare for road construction next week.

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor HIS Constructors plans to conduct paving operations early next week at the State Road 252 bridge over West Fork Crooked Creek in Morgan County. The bridge is located a little more than a mile west of State Road 135 near Morgantown, according to an INDOT news release.

On Monday, work crews will flag traffic while paving is in progress. They will also stop traffic intermittently for up to 20 minutes at a time throughout the day. This work will be rescheduled if needed due to inclement weather, INDOT officials say.

Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route if possible, officials say.

Milling and paving are being completed to repair pavement at both ends of the bridge, which is currently reduced to one lane with temporary traffic signals for a bridge replacement project. Work is expected to continue on the project through later this year, officials say.

The $2 million contract also includes a structure replacement on State Road 135 north of Trafalgar. State Road 135 is anticipated to reopen at that location — about 1.23 miles north of State Road 252 — later this month, the news release says.
