Boys soccer

Cougars claim sectional championship

Greenwood Christian knocked off host White River Valley on Saturday, 2-0, to claim a Class A sectional title. It’s the sixth such championship for the Cougars in the last 10 seasons but the first since 2019.

Bo Campbell gave the Cougars (8-7-3) a 1-0 lead when he converted a penalty kick in the first half. A Parker Satre header off of a corner kick provided GCA with some insurance.

Next up for the Cougars will be a trip to No. 20 Oldenburg Academy for a regional semifinal on Wednesday.

Grizzly Cubs drop regional shootout

Franklin’s season came to an end with a wild 66-58 loss to Brownsburg in a regional semifinal at Mooresville on Saturday.

The Grizzly Cubs had won their first sectional championship a week ago. The Bulldogs, who went on to beat Carmel 84-56 in the final, will play DeKalb for the state title this coming Saturday.

Volleyball

Lancers split four at home

Edinburgh went 2-2 on Saturday at the Lancer Volleyball Invitational, sweeping Southwestern and taking a three-setter against Oldenburg Academy but losing to Speedway and Lanesville. The Lancers were led by Gracie Crawhorn, who finished the day with 22 kills and 63 digs. Kyah Streeval totaled 58 assists, 35 digs and four aces.

Trojans drop finale in three

Center Grove wrapped up its regular season with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-12 loss to Class 4A No. 3 Yorktown. The Trojans will face Greenwood in a first-round sectional match Thursday in Bloomington.

Women’s tennis routs Quakers

Franklin College finished off its fall campaign with an 8-1 win over Earlham on Saturday. The Grizzlies (3-6, 2-4 HCAC) got singles victories from Maecee Terhune, Bethany Burton and Samantha Schick as well as doubles points from Sydney Carson and Emma Back at No. 1 and the team of Kinley Harmon and Brenna Atchison at No. 2.
