Voter registration deadline is Tuesday

The deadline for Hoosiers to register to vote is quickly approaching.

Hoosiers have until Tuesday to register to vote in the upcoming general election on Nov. 8. Under Indiana law, legal adults who are U.S. citizens are eligible to vote as long as they meet certain criteria.

To register, a resident must:

  • be a U.S. citizen and an Indiana resident
  • have resided in their voting precinct at least 30 days before the next election
  • be at least 18 years old on the day of the election
  • not currently be in prison after being convicted of a crime

Residents can go online to register at indianavoters.in.gov. Johnson County residents can also register in person by visiting the county clerk’s office in the basement of the Johnson County Courthouse, 5 E. Jefferson St., Franklin, or any license branch.

Those who were already registered are encouraged to check their registrations, which can be done online at indianavoters.in.gov.

Early voting begins Wednesday. The deadline for absentee ballot applications is Oct. 27, and applications can apply online at indianavoters.in.gov or apply in person at the clerk’s office.
