UPDATE: Indy man died in fatal accident on US 31 near Amity

12:20 P.M. UPDATE

An Indianapolis man died after a two-vehicle collision early Thursday morning near Amity.

James R. Hall, 43, of Indianapolis, was killed in a traffic accident in the northbound lanes of U.S. 31 at the intersection of County Road 400 South.

The accident occurred at 5:25 a.m., when Hall was on his way to work, said Duane Burgess, Johnson County Sheriff.

The surviving driver told investigators with Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Hall was driving his moped in the fast lane at a slow speed, when the driver decided to pass him in other northbound lane.

At that moment, Hall also decided to change lanes and the two collided, the accident report says.

Hall was pronounced dead at the scene, Burgess said.

Conditions during the accident were rainy and dark, which made it harder for the drivers to see each other, the report shows.

Video of the accident from nearby cameras supports the surviving driver’s account, Burgess said.

The accident is sad all around, Burgess said.

“His employer said he was always punctual, he rode that moped in no matter the weather,” Burgess said. “It is a sad situation about him and what the other individual is going through now.”
