Greenwood man facing high-level drug dealing charge

A Greenwood man is facing a high-level drug dealing charge after prosecutors say he sold a large amount of mushrooms earlier this year.

Christian Lee Merrill, 26, formerly of Indianapolis, is charged with dealing in a Schedule I controlled substance, a Level 2 felony. He was charged in July, and brought into the Johnson County jail on a warrant Thursday.

In April, a confidential informant for the Greenwood Police Department met with Merrill to buy psilocybin mushrooms. Officers observed Merrill allegedly driving around several streets before coming to a stop, getting a bag out of his trunk, and returning to the vehicle, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Johnson County Superior Court 3 on July 19.

Moments after Merrill reentered the vehicle, the informant exited the vehicle and Merill drove away. The informant told detectives Merill drove around because he didn’t like the way someone was looking at him. Once Merill stopped, he opened the bag and allegedly gave him a baggie of mushrooms, the affidavit says.

Audio and video of the drug buy matched what the informant said, according to the affidavit.

Merrill’s bond is set at $30,000.
