BARGERSVILLE
Gene Howard Sheely, 87 of Bargersville, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022. He was born in Indianapolis to Howard and Clara Sheely in 1935 and was a lifelong resident of Johnson County.
Gene graduated from Union High School in 1953 and joined the U. S. Navy as a reservist until his honorable discharge in 1961. Gene worked for 25 years at Indiana Gas Company (now Centerpoint Energy) as a meter reader, retiring as a serviceman. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Indianapolis Murat Shrine and member of Bargersville Lodge #679 F. &A.M.
Gene met the love of his life, Mary Jo, and they were married for 56 years before her untimely death in 2017. He is survived by their two daughters Cheryl Morphew (Joe), Rhonda Vandivier (Dan), grandson Matt McCarthy (Whitney), and great granddaughter Sarah McCarthy.
Gene’s interests and hobbies included corvettes, playing guitar and keyboard, collecting guns, restoring guns, woodworking, and RC model trains and planes. He and Mary Jo traveled for years across the U.S. participating in their corvette club’s car shows and road trips.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 26, from 11:00a – 1:00p at Flinn &Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton Street, Franklin, Indiana with a graveside service at 1:30p at Greenlawn Cemetery, 100 W. South St., Franklin, Indiana.
