Golf cart accident sends Franklin man to hospital

A Franklin man was transported to the hospital after he was struck on U.S. 31.

The man was crossing Morton Street/U.S. 31 at Mallory Parkway in his golf cart when a car ran the stoplight and struck him, said Kirby Cochran, Franklin police chief.

The man, 57, is believed to have serious injuries and possible head trauma. He was transported to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Cochran said.

In Franklin, the rule is golf carts can drive on any street with a speed limit under 45, Cochran said. Though golf carts are not allowed drive on U.S. 31, cart drivers are allowed to cross the highway at legal crossings, he said.
