Jessie R. Stearns, 81 of Franklin, IN passed away Saturday October 22, 2022, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born August 8, 1941, in Albany, Kentucky to Jessie Frank Stearns and Emma (Dicken) Stearns. He married Sharon K. (Hughes) Stearns on July 28, 1963, in Franklin, IN, she survives.
He retired from Allison Gas Turbine in March of 1993 after twenty-eight and half years of service as a final aircraft inspector. In 1996, Jessie and partners started Stearns and Brothers in Law Construction Company. Later in 2005, he started Stearns Construction Company retiring in 2020.
Jessie was an Elder at Christian Chapel Church of Morgantown, IN, serving until his passing. He enjoyed gardening, classic cars, sporting events, reading his Bible and especially spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years Sharon K. (Hughes) Stearns of Franklin, IN, sons Timothy Stearns (Suzanne) of Austin, TX and Matthew Stearns (Jennifer) of Bargersville, IN and a granddaughter Madison Stearns of Bargersville, IN, brothers Howard Stearns (JoAnn) of Franklin, IN and Steve Stearns (Ruth) of Franklin, IN as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jessie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Wilma Dugan, Opal Pitcher, Lena Anderson, Maxine Sidwell, Phyllis Conner, Carol Stubbs, Colleen Lenker, infant brothers Willie Franklin Stearns, James Ray Stearns and Gary Devon Stearns.
Pastor Kevin Whitaker of Christian Chapel Church of Morgantown will conduct a celebration of life service on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 1PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. Friends may call Saturday November 5, 2002, from 11AM until service time.
