Whiteland
Stephen (Steve) R. Smoot, of Whiteland, passed away October 31, 2022. He was born April 28, 1937 to the late Charles and Marie Smoot.
Steve was married to Sandra (Sonnie) Smoot. They celebrated their 64th anniversary on October 4, 2022.
Along with his wife, Steve is survived by his children, Jeff (wife Vicki) and Lauri Smoot, three grandchildren, Lindsey, Nick and Samantha, and three great-grandchildren, Micah, Rhen and Neilix.
Steve proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956-1958. After serving in the Navy, Steve returned home and worked as a sheet metal worker.
During his time as a Union Sheet Metal Worker from 1958-2000 he was an apprentice school instructor. Also, during his tenure in the trade, he worked for ITI (International Training Institute) & NEMI (National Energy Management Institution.) Steve was a Mason for 50 years as a Member of the Brookside Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed his time as Baseball coach and mentor to many young boys for Irvington Little League. Upon retirement, his interests included showing and breeding Quarter Horses and attending Car shows with Jeff.
He was a member of Valley Riders Saddle Club for 30 plus years.
In lieu of flowers, his wishes were that a donation be made to the American Heart Association, Johnson County Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 from 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. with services immediately following at Jessen & Keller Funeral Homes ~ Whiteland Chapel.
