Girls basketball

Grizzly Cubs rout Bull Dogs

Franklin rolled to a 65-28 home win over Columbus North on Saturday. Scarlett Kimbrell scored all of her game-high 15 points in the first half for the Class 4A No. 9 Grizzly Cubs (2-0), who also got 13 points from Erica Buening and 11 from Brooklyn York.

Braves crush Artesians

Led by 19 points from Lauren Foster, Class 3A No. 9 Indian Creek opened its season with a 46-8 shellacking of Martinsville. Abby Fleetwood had 10 steals and seven rebounds for the Braves, while Faith Wiseman contributed nine points.

Trojans edged by Tigers

Class 4A No. 4 Fishers stormed back in the fourth quarter to pull out a 47-42 win over Center Grove. Audrey Annee led the Trojans (1-1) with 17 points in defeat.

Franklin College

Women’s swim & dive wins again

The Franklin College women won their 50th consecutive dual meet on Saturday, taking 11 of 16 events in a 163-127 victory at Wheaton (Illinois). The Grizzlies had two swimmers win three events each, with Caileigh McCafferty taking the 200-yard individual medley as well as the 100 and 200 backstroke and Samantha Phillips hitting the wall first in the 200 butterfly and both the 100 and 500 freestyle. Also adding first-place finishes for Franklin were Faith Jackson (1- and 3-meter diving), Regan Hendricks (100 breaststroke), Erin Perkins (1,000 free) and Jyllian Antle (100 fly).

On the men’s side, the Grizzlies settled for a 147-147 tie. Gauge Creech won both diving events and officially earned a spot in the NCAA regional meet. Jack Burke (100 and 200 backstroke), Campbell Coyle (100 and 200 free) and Kosmo Wojack (100 and 200 fly) were all double event winners as well.
