Three Cubs sign with colleges

Three Franklin seniors signed letters of intent on Wednesday to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Max Clark, a two-time Daily Journal Player of the Year and a potential first-round pick in next summer’s MLB draft, formalized his commitment to play baseball at Vanderbilt University. Corin Dammeier, an All-County catcher as a sophomore, will play softball at Florida Atlantic, while Kaden Baltimore signed to play men’s volleyball at Indiana Tech.

Royals ink softball letters

Keagan Rothrock and Lyla Blackwell, both Roncalli seniors living in Johnson County, signed their respective letters of intent to play college softball. Rothrock, the Gatorade National Player of the Year last spring, signed with the University of Florida, while Blackwell will be heading to Virginia Tech. The two have helped lead the Royals to back-to-back Class 4A state championships.

Trojans sign letters of intent

Center Grove held a signing ceremony for 17 seniors planning to play college sports beginning next year. Parker Doyle and Parker Mimbela will run track at Indiana State, with Mimbela also running cross country; thrower Shelby Wingler will join the women’s track and field team at Kentucky. Caden Cornett and Grant Sawa will play baseball at Purdue Fort Wayne, while current teammates Garrison Barile (Miami of Ohio), Drew Culbertson (Missouri) and Evan Zapp (Queens) will venture out of state.

Emily Karr signed to play women’s soccer at Evansville; Kayli Farmer will do the same at Dayton. Brady Schier will play men’s golf at IUPUI, while Sage Parsetich will join the women’s team at Indiana Wesleyan. Emma Fair (Purdue Northwest), Haley Fuhr (IU Southeast) and Ashlynn Wolff (Washburn) all plan to continue playing softball, Julianna Weems will play volleyball at Concordia and Kristina Cutsinger will play women’s lacrosse at Thomas More.

Men’s basketball drops opener

Franklin College rallied from an 11-point deficit in the final minute and a half to give itself a shot at overtime, but it came up just short in a season-opening 60-58 loss at Berea late Tuesday night. Carter Crowe scored a team-high 15 points for the Grizzlies, while Trey Flatt added 11 points and Lynn King grabbed 10 rebounds.
