Center Grove school board seeks temporary member

Center Grove officials are looking for someone who can fill a vacant school board spot until Dec. 31.

Former school board president Joe Hubbard resigned from his position in October because of an out-of-district move. Voters elected long-time teacher Gary Robinson to replace Hubbard but he won’t take his seat until January. The current four-member board is seeking applicants to fill the seat for the rest of the year.

The board member would be appointed Nov. 17 and start their role immediately afterward, according to a Center Grove Community School Corporation news release.

Applicants must submit a letter of interest explaining their qualifications and why they want to be on the school board to the superintendent’s office by 4:30 p.m. Monday. All school board candidates must have lived within Center Grove’s district boundaries for at least one year, be a registered voter and have graduated high school. If a teacher or noncertified employee wants to apply for the spot, they will have to resign from their position prior to being on the school board, according to the release.

School board members vote on academic policies and course changes, approve the district’s budget and evaluate the performance of staff members.

Applicants must include their phone numbers and email addresses on their interest letters. Applicants can email letters to acting school board president Scott Alexander at [email protected] or hand-deliver them between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on regular school days to the superintendent’s office at 4800 W. Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood.
