JCSO issues correction for sex sting press release

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office issued a correction to the press release regarding the most recent child solicitation sting that was provided to the media on Nov. 4. Information about the sting was published in the Daily Journal on Nov. 5.

The press release, on which the Daily Journal story was based, identified one person who was not involved in the sting and who has not been arrested for child solicitation.

“Thiang Za Lian, 21, of Indianapolis, wasn’t involved in the sex solicitation sting. He was arrested in 2020 for a misdemeanor involving alcohol. That is the only criminal offense involvement he has had with law enforcement in Johnson County,” Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said in an email sent to media to correct the error.

A person with a similar name was arrested during the sting. Thian Lian, 27, of Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of child solicitation as a Level 4 felony and making an unlawful proposition as a misdemeanor.

Burgess said the error was investigated and corrected as soon as the sheriff’s office was notified. The correction email was sent late Friday evening.
