Here’s the latest on I-69 construction in Johnson County

Construction crews marked milestones last week on the Interstate 69 project between Martinsville and Indianapolis.

In Johnson County, the northbound State Road 37 exit ramp to State Road 144 opened to traffic, meaning drivers going north no longer have to take a detour via County Line Road to get to State Road 144. Work on State Road 37 in the county will continue with crews installing crushed stone shoulders, fiber optic cables and fencing, according to a weekly update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

In Marion County, workers also put the finishing touches on the I-69 bridge over Southport Road last week, as they opened the southbound State Road 37 exit ramp to Southport Road. A traffic signal remains east of the interchange for other traffic movements. Once workers remove that stoplight, there will only be just five remaining on the I-69 corridor, INDOT officials say.

Work this week will also include driving steel pilings for future bridges at the future Interstate 465 interchange with I-69. Crews are also working to remove a central median barrier on I-465 between Mann Road and Harding Road, which will close the left lanes of I-465 this week, but Carson Avenue bridge replacement work won’t close lanes and ramps. Both lanes of Wicker Road will reopen this week with crews removing a temporary traffic signal after drainage structure installation near State Road 37, INDOT officials say.

I-69 is now open to all four lanes of traffic throughout Morgan County. Waverly Park Road shifted last week as its intersection with Hollow Road reopened, to allow State Road 144 roundabout construction to progress, INDOT officials say.
