Detectives, coroner’s office investigating Taylorsville teen’s death

TAYLORSVILLE — The Bartholomew County Coroner’s office and the sheriff department are investigating the death of a 15-year-old Columbus North High School student who was found unresponsive in a home in the 2100 block of Tyler Drive at 5:26 a.m. Monday.

The coroner’s office identified the teen as Amy Rodriguez, 15, Taylorsville. An autopsy has been ordered and planned for today, Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting said.

Toxicology tests will also be conducted, he said, and the coroner’s office is pursuing an investigation into a possible overdose due to evidence at the scene where the girl was found.

Initially, Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies were sent to the Taylorsville address, along with personnel from the German Township Fire Department, on an initial call of an unresponsive 15-year-old female at the home, deputies said.

Deputies immediately requested detectives from the sheriff’s office who arrived on scene shortly after to begin a death investigation. The coroner’s office also responded to the residence and is assisting in the investigation.

“At this time the investigation is ongoing and there are no further details to be released pending results from the coroner’s office as well as our investigation,” said Sheriff Matt Myers.

Detective Dane Duke, sheriff’s office spokesman, said all involved parties are cooperating with the investigation.

“The sheriff’s office would like to express our condolences to the family, they are in our thoughts and prayers,” Duke said.

Other agencies that assisted at the scene were the German Township Fire Department and Columbus Regional Hospital EMS.
