Greenwood man dies in semi crash on State Road 46

A 44-year-old Greenwood man died in a collision between a semi and a Toyota 4-Runner at 7:20 p.m. Monday on State Road 46 near County Road 750E, the Bartholomew County Coroner’s office said.

The coroner’s office said the driver of the 4-Runner who died was Sarbjit Singh of Greenwood. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive trauma to the head, according to the coroner’s office.

The semi-driver told responding officers from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling north when the Singh’s SUV crossed the center line while going southbound, causing the collision, according to a press release from the office.

The sheriff’s office and Columbus Police are working to reconstruct the accident, the release says.

The semi-driver cooperated in all aspects of the investigation including a blood draw, however, impairment is not believed to be a factor at this time, the release says.

Other responding agencies include Hope and Indiana State Police, fire departments from Columbus Township and Elizabethtown responded, along with Columbus Regional Hospital EMS.

The crash remains under investigation by the county’s multi-agency Fatal Crash Reconstruction Team. The lead agency is Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.
