Connie Kay Cleek

Connie Kay Cleek, 72, of Bargersville, IN, passed away on November 10, 2022, after a long-fought battle with terminal cancer.

Connie was born on February 24, 1950, to Harold and Elva Morrison in Dover, Ohio. Connie attended West Chester High School in West Chester, Pennsylvania before graduating from Southport High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1968. She studied Physical Education and Health at Indiana State University, graduating in 1972. She completed her Master of Arts in Education at Ball State University in 1976.

Throughout high school and college, Connie was very active and her life revolved around athletics. Including, having been a state champion in diving at Southport High School and a collegiate swimmer and diver at Indiana State University. After her time as a competitive swimmer, she spent many years teaching swimming lessons to people of all ages.

After graduating from college with a degree in physical education, in 1972 she began her first job at Fountain Central High School as a physical education teacher, kickstarting a 30-year career in education. She would go on to teach at Lawrence Central High School, Southwestern Michigan College, and two parochial schools in Illinois before teaching at Pleasant Grove Elementary in 1991. Connie taught at Pleasant Grove Elementary for 22 years, and she was honored as “Teacher of the Year” in 2008.

In 1970, Connie met her husband, Lynn Cleek, at Indiana State University. Connie and Lynn had two children, Ryan Cleek (born 1976) and Michelle (Cleek) O’Hollaren (born 1979).

In 2013, Connie retired at the age of 63 and spent her time with her husband visiting her children who were living in Santa Cruz, CA, and Chicago, IL, at the time. Connie and Lynn also enjoyed traveling the United States and touring early American historical sites. She enjoyed church activities, swimming, spending time with her three sisters, and cuddling her beloved pug, Maggie.

Connie was a member of LifePoint Church in Indianapolis, IN, where she was involved in a Life Group and bible studies, she also attended Bible Study Fellowship classes for 4 years. Connie combined her talent for teaching with her love of working with children by volunteering to teach summertime vacation bible school classes. She was also a member of the Community Life Center in Greenwood, IN.

Connie was predeceased by her mother, Elva Morrison and father, Harold Morrison. She is survived by her husband, Lynn Cleek of Bargersville, IN; son, Ryan Cleek of Reno, NV; daughter, Michelle (Cleek) O’Hollaren of Carmel, IN; son-in-law, Ryan O’Hollaren of Carmel, IN; granddaughter, Everly O’Hollaren of Carmel, IN; and sisters, Beth Davis, Marcia Scott, and Linda Richards of Greenwood, IN.

Connie was a beloved member of the Center Grove Community School Corporation, and a cherished member of her family. Her infectious smile and upbeat spirit will live on with all who knew and loved her. Connie’s positive attitude, cheerful personality, and immeasurable kindness will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.

Services will be held at LifePoint Church, 8540 Combs Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46237 on November 21, 2022. The viewing will be from 10am-12 pm. Service at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
