White River library branch to close for two weeks

Johnson County Public Library officials will close the White River branch for up to two weeks starting Monday, primarily to replace flooring in the branch.

Concrete and electrical work will be needed as the construction workers replace flooring that’s more than 20 years old, requiring the temporary branch closure. Along with new floors, workers will move books and shelving, furniture and technology. Closing the library branch instead of keeping certain areas open will make the process faster, library director Lisa Lintner said in an email.

The work will also give patrons access to more electrical outlets to power their devices while at the library once the branch reopens, she said.

During the closure, the branch’s patrons will still be able to return items to the building’s book drop. They will also have the option to pick up materials and use computers at the Franklin, Clark Pleasant and Trafalgar branches. Patrons who aren’t in a rush to pick up items they’ve reserved can still pick them up at the White River branch once it reopens in early December, and library branch employees will reach out to patrons during the closure to ask them for their preferred pick up location, Lintner said.

White River branch patrons can call the usual phone number, 317-885-1330, to reach staff members, as the calls will be transferred to open branches. Patrons can also continue to place holds on items through the website or by phone, according to information from the library’s website.

Sometime after workers reopen the library branch, they will add a new study seating area to the adult services department. Library officials are looking over additional, long-term improvements at both the White River and Franklin branches, although they haven’t finalized any plans yet, Lintner said.
