College notebook: Traylor making instant impact at Radford

Freshman guard Ashlyn Traylor scored 13 points, grabbed three rebounds and had two assists for the Radford women’s basketball team in its 62-53 loss at Cincinnati. Through four games this season, the former Franklin player averages a team-high 11.5 points.

Franklin

Senior Bayleigh Torrance grabbed five rebounds and blocked a shot for Franklin College women’s basketball as it opened the season with a 74-65 home loss to Principia.

Wabash Valley College freshman guard Kuryn Brunson had three points and two rebounds in her team’s 88-70 win over visiting Southern Arkansas Tech and 12 points in a 102-69 victory against the DePauw reserve squad.

Ball State linebacker Clayton Coll had 10 tackles in the football team’s 32-18 loss to visiting Ohio.

Senior defensive back Tyce Miller made three tackles, intercepted a pass and broke up another for Rose-Hulman in its 40-31 loss at Mount St. Joseph.

Junior Eli Cochrane placed 166th with a personal-best time of 27 minutes, 10.3 seconds as Franklin College men’s cross country participated in the Great Lakes Championships.

IUPUI volleyball completed its season with home losses to Cleveland State and Oakland. Junior setter Brooke Phillips had 10 and 20 digs, respectively, for the Jaguars.

Center Grove

Hayden Watson, a freshman wrestler for The Citadel, placed third in the 149-pound weight class at the Citadel Open in Charleston, South Carolina.

Bentley women’s basketball opened its season with victories over Bloomfield and Caldwell. Senior guard Ella Thompson had five points and seven rebounds in the first outing and 16 points and five boards in the second.

Purdue guard Cassidy Hardin scored three points, grabbed three rebounds and had two assists in the team’s 90-61 victory over visiting Murray State.

Vermont senior guard Emma Utterback posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 assists to go along with her six rebounds in a 79-73 loss at Miami of Ohio. She tallied 22 points and had eight assists as the Catamounts downed American International, 68-46.

Indiana senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis finished with 21 points, six boards and two assists as the Hoosiers men’s basketball squad defeated visiting Bethune-Cookman, 101-49.

Senior guard Spencer Piercefield poured in 25 points with five assists and three steals for NAIA No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan in an 89-82 win over Mt. Vernon Nazarene.

Point guard Ben Nicoson scored eight points and collected three rebounds for the University of Indianapolis as it handed visiting Lake Erie a 78-65 loss.

Wabash College senior Cade Lansdell had three tackles in the team’s 49-14 loss to DePauw in the Monon Bell Classic. For the Tigers, junior defensive back Dane Young made two tackles and broke up a pass.

Linebacker Matt Hohlt finished with two tackles for Indiana in its 56-14 loss at Ohio State.

Ball State sophomore Carson Steele carried the ball 14 times for 96 yards in the Cardinals 32-18 home loss to Ohio.

Senior linebacker Riley Roberts made four tackles for Rose-Hulman in a 40-31 loss to Mount St. Joseph in a game played in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Eckerd College volleyball player Ashley Eck recorded totals of 12 digs and three assists as the team completed the regular season with a 24-6 record by defeating Division II No. 16 Barry in straight sets.

Whiteland

Senior wing Carter Crowe scored a team-high 19 points in leading Franklin College men’s basketball to a 63-62 triumph at DePauw.

Butler freshman defensive back Quinn Warweg made two tackles in the Bulldogs’ 27-24 loss at Drake.

Greenwood

Freshman linebacker Gavin Ruppert made 10 tackles for Wabash College football in its 49-14 loss to host DePauw in the annual Monon Bell Classic.

Franklin College junior Mallory Watson competed at the Great Lakes cross country championships, finishing in a time of 26:36.3.

Greenwood Christian

Sophomore forward Izzy Reed came off the bench to provide her team 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in NAIA No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan’s 84-70 win against Reinhardt.

Junior forward Champ McCorkle scored 10 points to go along with three rebounds as Wabash College men’s basketball defeated visiting Washington University, 70-67. Sophomore forward Styles McCorkle added two points and two boards off the bench. Champ McCorkle finished with six points in the team’s 79-69 victory at Hanover.
