College notebook: Lansdell helps lead Wabash defense in win

Wabash College defensive lineman Cade Lansdell produced nine tackles in the Little Giants’ 49-25 win over visiting Kenyon. The senior, a Center Grove product, has recorded 41 tackles this season entering today’s Monon Bell Classic at DePauw.

Center Grove

Ball State running back Carson Steele carried 28 times for a career-high 198 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as the Cardinals lost at Toledo, 28-21.

Air Force freshman wrestler Drake Buchanan won all four matches at 184 pounds to win his weight class at the Colorado Mines Rookie Open held in Golden, Colorado. The former Center Grove athlete and reigning state champion on the mat won two matches by pin and the other two by decision.

Senior Trayce Jackson-Davis had 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals as the Hoosiers rolled to an 88-53 season-opening victory over visiting Morehead State.

Indiana Wesleyan guard Spencer Piercefield finished with 14 points and two assists in the team’s 79-63 home loss to NAIA No. 2 Thomas More. The Wildcats routed No. 22 Oregon Tech, 94-57, as Piercefield contributed 10 assists, six steals and four points.

Senior guard Emma Utterback led Vermont women’s hoops with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists in an 83-49 road loss to No. 11 Indiana.

Indiana linebacker Matt Hohlt finished with four tackles in the team’s 45-14 loss to visiting Penn State.

Senior linebacker Riley Roberts had four tackles for Rose-Hulman in a 47-17 triumph at Hanover.

Indiana State junior Lucas Hunter finished with four tackles in a 42-7 loss to visiting North Dakota.

Sophomore setter Madison Hammill had 21 assists, seven digs and three service aces as the Wisconsin volleyball team won in four sets over visiting Indiana.

Junior Jamie Brown had six kills in Indiana State’s volleyball loss to Southern Illinois, and two kills and a dig in a loss at Missouri State.

Ashley Eck had 13 digs and three assists for Eckerd College in a four-set loss at No. 18 Barry.

Franklin

Senior Gauge Creech won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events as Franklin College tied Wheaton (Illinois), 147-147, in the first men’s swimming and diving dual meet of the season. The Grizzlies women’s squad defeated Wheaton, with junior Regan Hendricks winning the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1 minute, 14.61 seconds.

Junior Drew Byerly scored a 4-yard touchdown run and made two catches for 24 yards as Marian defeated visiting Siena Heights, 24-2.

Ball State linebacker Clayton Coll tied for team-best honors with 11 tackles in the team’s 28-21 loss at Toledo.

IUPUI setter Brooke Phillips had six digs, two aces and an assist in the team’s loss at Northern Kentucky.

Greenwood

Franklin College women’s swimming won its 50th consecutive dual match with a 163-127 victory at Wheaton (Illinois), with senior diver Faith Jackson winning both the 1- and 3-meter events.

Wheeling (West Virginia) University volleyball entered its conference tournament with a 23-7 record after freshman Melia Gorrell had 21 digs in the final regular-season match, a win over West Liberty.

Taylor freshman Quinn Kelly collected two rebounds off the bench in a 73-63 loss to visiting Midway.

Freshman linebacker Gavin Ruppert recorded a team-high 13 tackles as Wabash College downed visiting Kenyon, 49-25.

Whiteland

Freshman defensive back Quinn Warweg was credited with four tackles and a pass broken up as Butler football won at San Diego, 26-23.

Manchester sophomore guard Logan Willoughby finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a season-opening loss at Trine, 78-67.

Senior Carter Crowe finished with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists in Franklin College’s season-opening 60-58 loss at Berea.

IU East junior guard Megan Harlow scored four points and grabbed three rebounds in the team’s 94-82 loss to Oakland City at the First Bank Richmond tournament.

Greenwood Christian

Indiana Wesleyan sophomore Izzy Reed had three points, a rebound and an assist in a 75-49 victory over Oakland City at the First Bank Richmond tournament. She grabbed two rebounds in IWU’s 80-58 win against Concordia (Michigan).
