An Edinburgh man is in custody after police say he shot and killed a man on Thanksgiving.
Damion Bryant, 20, was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder by the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently in the Bartholomew County Jail, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 15000 block of N. Bluff Road in Edinburgh at 6:13 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, they found one male with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, the release said. The German Township Fire Department and Columbus Regional Hospital EMS administered medical aid at the scene, but the man was later pronounced deceased at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Bryant was identified as the gunman, and was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives at the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. The incident was a family-related dispute, said Dane Duke, detective at the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing and further details about the incident will not be released at this time, Duke said in a statement. The Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office will be the point of contact for information related to the victim.
The Edinburgh Police Department and the Columbus Police Department assisted at the scene.
Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew Myers voiced concern in a statement about gun-related incidents on Thanksgiving Day. He said the county had three gun-related incidents Thursday.
“Law enforcement as a whole takes gun violence very seriously and we are no different here at your sheriff’s office. We will work diligently to bring those who commit violence against members of our community to justice,” Myers said.
