College notebook: Bischoff helps lead Cardinals past BYU

Ball State sophomore guard Maddie Bischoff, a Greenwood resident who graduated from Roncalli, scored 11 points, grabbed five rebounds and had three assists as the Cardinals won at Brigham Young, 61-56.

Senior middle hitter Grace Hegwood (Greenwood) was one of two UIndy volleyball players to be named to the Academic All-District team, as chosen by college sports communicators.

Indiana Wesleyan sophomore forward Izzy Reed tallied a career-high 19 points off the bench along with three rebounds and two steals as the Wildcats won at Spring Arbor, 73-63.

Wabash College men’s basketball lost at home to Earlham, 65-57, with Little Giants Champ McCorkle and Styles McCorkle scoring seven and two points, respectively.

Center Grove

Vermont guard Emma Utterback scored 16 points and distributed five assists in a 70-48 win against visiting Stonehill and went for 20 points, five assists and four rebounds in the Catamounts’ 57-51 triumph over Siena.

Bentley senior guard Ella Thompson had eight rebounds and four assists in a loss at Eckerd and 18 points and three boards in a loss at St. Leo.

Junior guard Claire Rake had three points, two assists and a rebound for Truman State as it defeated McKendree, 79-72. She added eight points, two boards and a steal in an 86-75 victory over visiting UIndy.

Senior guard Cassidy Hardin scored 11 points and corraled four rebounds for Purdue women’s hoops in a 76-75 loss to Florida State at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico. She added three points and two assists in an 87-78 home win against Syracuse.

Indiana senior Trayce Jackson-Davis had 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks as the Hoosier men downed visiting North Carolina, 77-65, in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

Indiana Wesleyan guard Spencer Piercefield had 17 points and seven assists in a home victory over Spring Arbor, 99-70.

Senior guard Ben Nicoson finished with three rebounds and three assists for the University of Indianapolis in a 62-57 loss at Quincy. He had nine points, two assists and a steal in an 80-57 victory at Truman State.

Butler offensive lineman Skyler Spetter has been named to the All-Pioneer League first team after helping the Bulldogs complete the season with a 7-4 record.

Senior linebacker Riley Roberts was one of 13 Rose-Hulman football players named to the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference first team after he finished the season with 46 tackles, including 11 for loss, and three interceptions.

Ball State sophomore running back Carson Steele has been named first team All-Mid-American Conference after rushing for 1,556 yards — third-most in school history for a single football season. Teammate Ethan Crowe, a sophomore offensive lineman, was named to the second team.

Freshman running back Daniel Weems carried three times for 13 yards for Indiana Wesleyan football in its 24-13 win over Benedictine College in the NAIA Football Championship Series , qualifying the Wildcats for today’s semifinal at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.

Franklin

UIndy freshman wrestler Jacob Johnson notched a win in the 285-pound weight class before losing a 3-1 decision in the second round at the Findlay Open.

Rose-Hulman senior defensive back Tyce Miller was named first team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference after finishing the season with 20 tackles and a team-high seven interceptions.

Ball State junior linebacker Clayton Coll was named second-team All-Mid-American Conference after finishing the season with a team-high 110 tackles.

Junior Drew Byerly had a 7-yard touchdown run for Marian in its 52-27 loss at third-ranked Northwestern (Iowa) in an NAIA FCS quarterfinal.

Wabash Valley freshman guard Kuryn Brunson scored 13 points in a 114-40 win over Jefferson College at the Chris Morrison State Farm Classic.

Senior forward Bayleigh Torrance finished with four points and four rebounds for Franklin College in its 92-46 loss at Transylvania.

Freshman guard Ashlyn Traylor had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists as Radford women’s hoops downed UNC-Wilmington, 67-60. She just missed another double-double in the team’s 79-60 loss to College of Charleston with 12 points and nine boards.

Whiteland

Franklin College men’s basketball lost at home to Dominican, 71-68, despite the 16 points and five assists of senior Carter Crowe. He added 13 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in a 74-52 win over visiting Centre.

IU East junior guard Megan Harlow had six points, three rebounds and two assists in the team’s 91-61 loss to visiting Oakland City.

Senior guard Libby Baker scored four points to go along with two boards and two assists in Franklin College’s 92-46 loss at Transylvania.

Greenwood

Wabash College freshman linebacker Gavin Ruppert was named third team All-North Coast Athletic Conference after leading the Little Giants in tackles with 95.
